BTW, if it comes to "junk" in the HTML, I have more issues with the ids of certain controls.
This is a general ASP.NET "problem", with ASP.NET 4 there are some interesting possibilities to influence the rendered Ids.

But I have not tried this yet and I wonder if Static would work if controls are repeated on a page..

woohoo.. this feature is now optional in 5.5. I have to update the thread and thank Charles for listening and taking action.. thanks heaps! Rob
