After upgrading my old 5.6.3 system to any version of DNN 6 including 6.0.0, 6.0.1, 6.0.2, and 6.1.0 beta, I can no longer update portal site settings from an Admin account.

However it works fine from Host accounts, and it also works fine with fresh installs of DNN 6.

When updating portal settings from an Admin account, this is displayed on the page:
"An error has occurred. Error: Site Settings is currently unavailable."

The error pasted below is logged, btu nothing else.

I have gone so far as to build a test instance of my site with all modules removed and all other modifications, such as language files, restored back to fresh files from a 5.6.3 installer. I upgraded this repeatedly to various releases, but it always has the same issue.

My 5.6.3 instance has been in operation for years and regularly upgraded since early 4.3.x

I don't know where to take it from here after spending 3 days trying to sort it out.
Regards
Rob

p.s. I have noticed that the "Portals" module appears to be two modules combined. It is both the Admin-Site Settings module and also the Host-Portals module. This appears to me to be a conflict of purpose and permission and is probably not meant to be like this?

beep! DNNCorp... is this likely to be a bug in 6.x or some flaw in a previous upgrade? Any tips for where to go next are appreciated.

I have a file system and database available for debugging if necessary.
Regards
Rob

I finally figured this out after an unbelievable amount of work, no thanks to anyone at DNN Corp as usual. Why the hell none of them can even comment on this in here is just infuriating. DNN Corp is a commercial enterprise these days and they should have the decency to respond and investigate - it's not as if I walked in here yesterday and havent got a flipping clue.

Time to rant - I've made over 2 thousand posts here in the past; the overwhelming majority of them helping others in great detail. I also respond daily to many posts in the other open source project I'm involved in, so as far as I'm concerned I play my unpaid part in these things... and yet it seems every time I ask anything at all, I never get a single reply. Pisses me off no end considering the amount of time I lost tracking this particular stupid bug down over the the past week.

So anyhow, I'm mad as hell about it, but whatever.. here's the Gemini ticket:
http://support.dotnetnuke.com/issue/V...

FYI, it affects all versions of DNN 6 that are avalable to me - up to 6.1 beta. I can hardly believe the issue has got this far without anyone noticing. I can only assume that people who operate a controlled multi-portal environment, such as I do, simply havent bothered to try DNN6 yet. I wasn't planning to either, but the endless stream of bugs in DNN 5 are forcing me to make a move. The broken premium module functionality has been the final straw for 5.6.3.

If anyone can pinpoint this new issue in the source, I'll be keen and happy to build it and give anyone affected a dll until it is fixed officially. I've done what I can to find it, but am not up to it.
Regards
Rob

Rob, I can confirm this to be an issue in DNN 6.2.0 beta, but happily, your item has already been dealt with by Charles Nurse and will be fixed in DNN 6.1.1
