so i deleted everything again (website/database) and installed teh v6.02.01 and no problems at all...

so sum it all up, i did fresh installs on the same hosting environment:

  • installing the 06.02.02 install gives me a error when i want to log in (or register) - i can however copy the link from the button and access the login page. (and login)
  • installing the 06.02.01 version works without problems.
  • upgrading 06.02.01 to 06.02.02 introduces the problem also.

i will wait with an upgrade until i have the means to test. (obvious, LOL) It must be something weird.. if i find out what i'll add it here.

@Matthias: it probably is something like that. as i said.. i first messed up, but why the full install fresh didn't work puzzles me.

All fresh installs I done on 6.2.2 worked well.  I am sure it happens with any of your setting.  Perhaps the 2nd Connection Sting is missing. Otherwise I have no idea w/o have a look to your system and setting.

You could try to give the IUsers (IUser) execute permissions, I have sean some IIS instances who uses other databaseOwner as 'dbo' that need this setting.  Not sure at time why this happend, sould be anything with the IIS.

Hi Matthias, thanks for thinking with me.

I use the same replacement string for both installs. So i replace the original webconfog part:

<connectionStrings>
    <!-- Connection String for SQL Server 2005/2008 Express -->
    <add name="SiteSqlServer" connectionString="Data Source=.\SQLExpress;Integrated Security=True;User Instance=True;AttachDBFilename=|DataDirectory|Database.mdf;" providerName="System.Data.SqlClient"/>
    <!-- Connection String for SQL Server 2005/2008
    <add name="SiteSqlServer" connectionString="Server=(local);Database=DotNetNuke;uid=;pwd=;" providerName="System.Data.SqlClient" />
    -->
  </connectionStrings>
  <appSettings>
    <!-- Connection String for SQL Server 2005/2008 Express - kept for backwards compatability - legacy modules   -->
    <add key="SiteSqlServer" value="Data Source=.\SQLExpress;Integrated Security=True;User Instance=True;AttachDBFilename=|DataDirectory|Database.mdf;"/>
    <!-- Connection String for SQL Server 2005/2008 - kept for backwards compatability - legacy modules
    <add key="SiteSqlServer" value="Server=(local);Database=DotNetNuke;uid=;pwd=;"/>
    -->

with:

<connectionStrings>
    <add name="SiteSqlServer" connectionString="Server=o8yqlqpti4.database.windows.net;Database=DotNetNuke;uid=itproadm;pwd=**password**!;" providerName="System.Data.SqlClient" />
  </connectionStrings>
  <appSettings>
    <!-- Connection String for SQL Server 2005/2008 - kept for backwards compatability - legacy modules-->
    <add key="SiteSqlServer" value="Server=o8yqlqpti4.database.windows.net;Database=DotNetNuke;uid=itpradm;pwd=**password**;"/>

This works since version 1 or so ;) (i have used dotnetnuke since version 1, but stopped at version 4... to return now. since there are more asp.net  /ms-sql providers for a more reasonable price it finally is affordable to run a asp.net site with ms-sql)

I will be testing the install in a few days, i need to purchase an additional web+sql package first. But first I have to create some working sites. I'll keep this up to date with my findings regarding the 6.02.02 install version.

To make it clear.  If you extract the DNN 6.2.2 install package over a existing DNN instance you overwrite the existing web.config file and you will lose the connection and data!  Use the DNN upgrade package to upgrade existing instances did not overrides the existing web.config file only modified it with new needed settings.

Using the install package of DNN over a existing running instance need the manual transfer of both connection strings, Maschine Key, databaseOwner and objectQualifier from the old web.config (6.2,1 version) to the new web.config (6.2.2.) file.  Make issues on transfering and running the upgrade need everytime re restore of a prevoius maked backup!

Hi Matthias...

thanks for all the time you take to help me. I realise the machine key and the login credentials need to be copied to be able to hash the passwords back and such.

However... this didn't explain why the fresh install 6.2.2 on a clean environment and fresh/new sql 2008 database gave the same problem (as the upgrade - no login). With a total fresh install i ruled out the machine keys and the connection problems. (as i get data in and out of the database.)

i'll test a fresh install in a few hours. I've purchased a second database and a webspace. (also a domainname: www.dnntest.nl)
