Are you asking how you ADD a new folder of a different type or how you INSTALL a new foldertype.

1. Installing a new folder type is handled by the extension installer - install you extension and the new types will be registered in the system.
2. If you want to add a new FOLDER of a different type to your portal - click on the new folder icon - and select the type of folder from the foldertype dropdown.

Hi Wes,

To be more precise:

I have installed the module DNNGlobalStorage from Evotiva.
I can see that the module is installed by going to ADMIN -> EXTENSIONS -> PROVIDERS.

It is there as it should. I have tried re-installing the module after upgrade to 7.1.2, just to make sure it really is installed as it should be.

But when following your advice, going to ADMIN -> FILE MANAGEMENT and clicking on NEW FOLDER ICON, all that shows up there are the three standard folder types:

  1. Standard
  2. Secure
  3. Database
This is not the way according to DNNGlobalStorage manual to add a new foldertype in DNN.

The way to do it is to go to FILE MANAGEMENT, choose EDIT PAGE, choose the pen and MANAGE FOLDER TYPES.

Here up until 7.2.0 there was a choice called "NEW FOLDER TYPE", but when I upgraded to 7.2.0 that choice disappeared. There is only "CANCEL" here.

I e-mailed the Evotiva support and asked them. The answer was:

" Weird..  That's a known DNN bug ( https://dnntracker.atlassian.net/plug...) which was fixed. At least in 7.2 it should not be happening. "

Please guys, I need some help now. This worked just fine up until 7.1.2, but in 7.2.0 the choice "NEW FOLDER TYPE" is no longer available under MANAGE FOLDER TYPES.

I have a new install of DNN 7.2.0, ant the option is no longer present.
I know, there had been some work at Digital Asset Management and
maybe this option has been moved to Foldertype provider section?

If the function to add a new folder type has been moved somewhere else, or done differently, could you help me to explain how it is done?

I fear, the option might have been hidden by accident.
I suggest submitting an issue ticket to the tracker at support.dnnsoftware.com.

This bug is still open as DNN-4453 'Folder Provider "Add new type" button is missing'. The latest comments are:

Cathal Connolly

added a comment -

this is a known bug -the functionality was added in 7.1.1 but removed from the platform in 7.1.2 - we have a number of updates to make and then we can reintroduce this functionality

Charles Nurse added a comment -

I think this should be handled in 7.2.2

Workaround: Type the URL for add a new type in the browser's address bar.
The  'add new type' url loos like this:
http://[MY_WEB_SITE_URL]/Admin/File-Management/ctl/EditFolderMapping/mid/XXX
* XXX is the DNN File Manager module's ID.
You can find XXX valuefrom the module's properties url (hovering on the link that will bring you there)

Alternatively, a URL like this should work too:
http://[MY_WEB_SITE_URL]/Admin/FileManager/tabid/YY/ctl/EditFolderMapping/mid/XXX/Default.aspx
* YY is the page id (tab id) where the DNN File Manager is

PS: This was the previous time it happened: https://dnntracker.atlassian.net/browse/DNN-27659
