Hi Sebastian, thanks for your reply.

If that is possible then I would like to just let the DNN framework handle the upgrade. This would make my life a whole lot easier. I have concerns however as our server is currently operating on ASP 2.0.

In fairness I haven't put in the hours to research it yet, but I would assume that running newer versions of DNN would require an update to the ASP framework (even if it is not required, we want to take this opportunity to update the technologies we use). Is it possible to first update ASP and then update DNN, while still preserving our user accounts?

Certainly more recent versions of DNN require more recent versions of the framework. Google should find you a list of pre-req versions.

You can happily install multiple versions of the .Net framework simultaneously. I've only used a few combinations, but I'd expect older versions of DNN to happily run on the later framework versions.

Best wishes,

DNN 5.3.0 and above requires .Net 3.5.1 installed (shows up in IIS application pool configuration as ASP.Net 2.0), while DNN 7 requires .Net 4.0 or above (displayed as ASP.Net 4.0). You should upgrade in multiple steps, suggested path would be 5.2.3 > 5.4.4 > 5.6.8 > 6.1.5 > 6.2.9 > 7.1.2 > 7.2.1. Before upgrading to 7.0, you should apply .Net 4.0 merge script using Host > Configuration manager, the file is located inside /install/scripts (AFAIR), and afterwards you may switch .Net version being used for the app pool.

Ah, just the information I was looking for. Thank you, Sebastian.

I'll give it a go on my localhost site, and see if there are any issues.

Thank you all for your assistance.
