did you follow suggested upgrade steps - 5.6.8 - 6.1.2 - 6.2.9 - 7.1.2 - 7.3.4?
Did you switch IIS app pool to ASP.Net 4 prior to upgrading to DNN 7?
Is you database running on SQL Server 2008 or higher and in compatibility mode 100 or up?

I just used this (DNN_Platform_07.04.00_Upgrade.zip) file from website - unblock, extract, upgrade. I did not manage anything manually - I did not manually configure upgrade steps. As you can see in my first post, I got two errors but pages are accessible.

I switched IIS app pool to ASP.Net 4.
My Database is running on SQL Server 2014, Compability level: SQL Server 2008 (100).

if you switch to .Net 4 after the upgrade, you have to apply merge script to your web.config:
- go to Configuration manager in Host menu
- load web.config
- beneath, load .net 4 config script from /install/configuration folder
- execute
