DNN 8 still ships Telerik library, but moved the wrapped controls to a different namespace, forcing developers to update their modules.
However, this library is still the same as before, 30 months old with a couple of fixes (especially for new browsers), done by DNN Corp.

Cheers from Germany,

Why is it forcing module developers to update their modules? As an example, if the module is using <dnn:label.., the module shouldn't care which assembly dnn is referencing to produce the html for that tag. Maybe it's a different issue I am missing.

I think that current Telerik.Web.UI.dll in DNN is based on version from July 17, 2013 (http://www.telerik.com/support/whats-...). We also experienced that replacing this DLL with latest version from Telerik was breaking some web controls in DNN 7.x, so we decided to continue to use this old DNN version, and that bring us to other problems with eg. IE11 in our custom modules.

For most of new DNN modules in last two years we are using JavaScript controls (like KendoUI or similar) and WebApi for server side.
