I suspect they had it in there for the same reasons as us. It really was a simple code fix to allow a person to either have nowrap or leave it out.

when will this newer 03.03.07 be available as an upgrade to the links module?

it is in the release process and has been since the day after it was discovered and fixed (about 2 weeks). I cannot give a time frame for the release as it is out of my control.
