I'm not sure what you mean by "install [it] like the install version."  I downloaded the source and unzipped it.  I can open with VS2008 but it doesn't build.  It appears that perhaps some references are missing... more in the response to the post below.

nope, login to your local DNN development portal as host user, in Host :: Module Definitions upload the module using "install new module" command. now you will find .sln file in /desktopModules/News/ folder and may start with your modifications.

So let me make sure I've got this... I've downloaded the source.zip file.  There's a DotNetNuke.Module.News.dll among several other files and I believe a Resources.zip file.  The Resources.zip includes a .sln file.  This is what I attempted to unzip and build.

If I understand your instructions correctly, installing the DotNetNuke.Module.News.dll referenced above will create that same .sln file (the same one that I currently see in the resources.zip file) in the /DesktopModules/News folder.  And from there I'll be able to build the .sln file and make modifications, etc.?  I think I follow that and can give that a shot in a couple of days.

Another quick questions or two... To debug, do I need to attach the News project to iexplorer?  After I've succecssfully made changes and built, do I then need to reinstall the module (Host :: Module Definitions) in order to see those changes?

Thanks for the help and the uber quick response, Sebastian!
