you must have an error in your template source ... a missing bracket or some other syntax error.  The html that is being generated from the template is not valid.

For example: If I look at the source for one of the thumbnail images I see the following

<img src="<input type="image" name="dnn$ctr407$Repository$lstObjects$ctl04$ctl03" src="/DesktopModules/Repository/MakeThumbnail.aspx?tabid=65&amp;amp;id=20&amp;amp;mid=407&amp;amp;w=100" style="border-width:0px;" />

Obviously, that's not right...

If you want to email your template.html source, I can take a look at it.
email it to steve.fabian@gooddogs.com

is there a way to have the image open the details page?

I finally came back to solve this.  After setting up an environment where I could step through the code - the light bulb (or should I say, the LED) finally came on.  Clicking the preview image now opens up the PDF file of our newsletter.

I did not have to change template.xml.  I changed the template.html as follows:
BEFORE:

AFTER: Preview Image

I can't seem to post the actual HTML, so here is a description of the solution.

Change the tokens [IMAGE] and [THUMBNAIL] on lines 19 and 20 of the template.html (using the default2 theme) to [FILEURL] and [IMAGE], respectively.
