Thanks for the info lapinzon. I don't remember recompiling when I was testing the enhancement but it's possible that I accidently launched DNN from Visual Studio at some point by mistake. I'll let Steve know if he doesn't see this.

I recently redownloaded the 3.1.10 release and am still having problems removing the requirements for a file upload.  Have we been able to confirm that this requires a recompile of the source?  If so can I get a rebuilt version posted.  I am using VS 2005 and don't have everything setup to recompile the source.

Thanks for the help.

I'm seeing this problem in 4.3.6 - also from the looks of things I am not sure the form.xml is being used at all - e.g. I am not seeing the default values in the input text areas.

Can anyone suggest a fix or workaround? I'm trying to write articles which don't really have a file attached.

Thanks

slodge

- sorry for duplication but problem report was also posted here (http://www.dotnetnuke.com/Community/ForumsDotNetNuke/tabid/795/forumid/54/threadid/54440/threadpage/3/scope/posts/Default.aspx)

Make a copy of the articles template (call it slodge_articles or something else meaningful). You'll want to do this so that it doesn't get overwritten by future updates. Edit the form.html file and remove the table rows that contain the file information.

<TR>
   <TD ALIGN="Left" VALIGN="Top" COLSPAN="2" style="padding: 4px; border-left: dashed 1px DimGray;border-top: dashed 1px DimGray;border-right: dashed 1px DimGray;">[DNNLABEL:FileName][LABEL:DownloadVersion]</TD>
  </TR>
  <TR>
   <TD ALIGN="Left" VALIGN="Top" WIDTH="150"style="padding: 4px; border-left: dashed 1px DimGray;border-bottom: dashed 1px DimGray;">&nbsp;</TD>
   <TD ALIGN="Left" VALIGN="Top"style="padding: 4px; border-bottom: dashed 1px DimGray;border-right: dashed 1px DimGray;">[FILE]</TD>
  </TR>

It should now work without failing on the file requirement.

I did try that already.... and it didn't work....

But now I've just tried it again...

And it does :-)

Thanks!

Thanks for the feedback but I am trying to make it so that uploading a file is available, but not required.  Removing the file tag completely from the form.html doesn't make it available at all.  From the previous posts, it looks like form.xml has settings to change whether it is required or not.  And after browsing the code it seems like it should be checking the settings before adding a validator, but I just can't get it to work with the binary included in the install.  I'm using the examples previously in this thread.

Thanks.
