Hi Guys,

I'm very new to Dotnetnuke and I'm sure this has been covered before. Any advice would be much appreciated.
I'm currently creating a page in which the employee can create quotes or programs for the free users. Management can create employee accounts and also manage their employee Form lists and the employee's client form lists.

My main questions are:

1) How do I set the filter so that the user only sees their own records that were created through the form (created by)

I tried using [Created by_UDT_Caption]='[User:Username]' but it doesnt return any results.

2) How can i Create child tables or lists so that I'm not always storing text and instead just the transaction id ( To keep the size of the db down)

Example, Employee often selects a quote for Car, truck, bike.... instead of storing text each time can we create a list of preset options?

Thanks so much and please go slowly and in detail, I'm not at the same level as most you guys and could easily get left behind.

Karl

Ok, so I figured my own problem out..... it had to do with me using the wrong quotations lol....

[Created by_UDT_Original] = '[User:UserName]' gave me the desired results......

Now I was wondering how to create predefined tables so Im not redundant and how I could go about creating a one to many relationship for my form so I can store multiple records for one entry.

Karl, I am sorry to disappoint you, but Form and List has no support for relations.

Hi Stefan,

Thanks for the reply. Could you point me in the direction of perhaps a thrid party module that would allow me to create a form with a subform?

It was quite easy to do in MS access and even VWD but Im not a very good programmer and assumed DNN would have this covered in some module.

Its basically having a one to many relation so I can properly add inventory to one entry.

Any help at all would be much appreciaed!

Karl

Hi Karl

As mentioned F&L does not have relations but you can fake it. I have done this before

I made a simple business directory with 2 F&L modules

one module had all the business categories

one other module on same or new page had all the businesses

i had a drop-down field in the business F&L with the same categories as where in the categories F&L

You then add a link to the categories template so that it creates a link with the category in the querystring

and finally a filter on the business F&L to only show the businesses of the selected category
