I have an installation scenario here and that is: in our company we have an online timesheet management system written by C# ASP.NET 1.1 and now we require a portal such as DNN for our website as well.

Is it possible to have both applications running under the same domain? or the e-timesheet application should be re-coded as DNN modules? (considering that it might cost our company quite a number to migrate e-timesheet system into DNN modules)

We might be able to integrate the two systems in Database level but what happens to the application level?

I am not exactly sure what you are trying to ask here but...

You can integrate many things different ways, you really need to decide what you want to do and then determine how long it would take to do it.

Let me explain more, our company website is developed by ASP.NET 1.1 and we want to upgrade it to DNN and redesign everything based on DNN, however, part of our website is a timesheet system (in the application space) that we don't want to touch, (the timesheet system is using SQL Server). now can we run them both under the same domain www.mycompany.com?  like 2 different applications running with a hyperlink from one another?

I have no idea if CLR would run the two web applications in the same namespace.

For a site I'm working on I put the "legacy" application inside an IFrame module on the DNN site.  It uses ASP.NET, has its own directory on the server, its own Web.config, etc.  It also connects to a separate database.  From the user's perspective it all looks as "one site."  You can also pass username/id through the IFrame module so that your other application can ID the user.  I'm not sure if the forum rules allow it, otherwise I would post a link to an example.

Thank you for your fine response. From the configuration stand point, do i need to have to diffrenet virtual directories? Our website is hosted on a server in Florida, the provider offers DNN on their hosting.

I guess i should create a second virtual directory and put our legacy software there with a link to it form the primary website which will be designed on top of DNN. Then they both may even be using the same database, i don't see any problems there and off course the username can be encrypted and passed by IFrame or as URL paramter to the legacy application. This way they would run on two seperate namespaces, one:  ASP.NET 2.0 and the other ASP.NET 1.1 (the legacy sofware). Is this a correct assumption?
