When importing Forum/Thread, you will need to:-

  1. Insert Forum
  2. Insert Thread
  3. Insert Posts
  4. Update Posts to refer to parentID
  5. Update Thread to show last post
  6. I think update forum to show last post

There was also something else that needed updating at thr group level to make the last post info display properly. I didn't find out what it was. I created a new post and then deleted it again within one forum in a group, and then everything displayed properly.

If you would like to contact me, I will soon be undertaking this EXACT process.  I need to port over my webwiz forums into the dnn forum module.  If you have gotten anywhere on this, I would like to see what you have got.  We can hopefully work togethor and get this taken care of.

If you have a method to decrypt the passwords you can set the users passwords to the same thing when importing to DotNetNuke.  If the passwords were hashed before, they will be given new passwords.

If you would like to contact me I might be able to help you with this project. But the overviews provided above capture the basics of the process.

thanx,
I don't plan to migrate over the users.  I plan to match the users who posted to the users I migrate from the site into DNN.  I do not have to unencrypt any passwords, as I am leaving that portion out.  I just need to match the tables up b/w the schemas and setup a dts.  the only portion I am worried about is the users.  Ihave read other places that the users (DNN) must visit the forum page once to be added to the forums (this happends automagically)  but if I convert all this, including matching the users from the site to the poster, are those users already forum registered?  will this process mess up the automagic?  For users in the current forum, who are no longer registered, I plan to create a dummy user and assign all unassinged post to that user (ala "Guest" or "Anonymous").

As this forum is totally new to me, help may be a good thing.  I might contact you at some point, but I hope to be able to work through the suggestions provided and get a good portion of this done.
