Brining a more robust MySpace type profile will incurage users to be more active. I think increasing the standard DNN profile with more customizable features (i.e. Wallpaper, a more detailed bio, pictures, friends list, mail, etc.) would increase activity on most community sites. I think even a trimmed down version would be a great addition to DNN. If this could be easily linked up to other mods, like the forums, blogs, Vetrian System articles mod, etc. it would really help grow some large online communities and DNN awareness in the marketplace.

Check Out Diggs New Profile Features - This is pretty much the same functionality as the core DNN profile, just expanded.

A big YES to what Rodney is saying!

Agreed!

I would like to see more modules use the core profiles as well. Having 20 profiles scattered through a single portal install is just a plain mess. Not to mention it eats extra space in the DB.

I'm with you guys, its just a matter of figuring out what is the best way to accomplish this. It's something that has and will be on my mind for a bit.

Thanks for listening Chris.

From a technical perspective is what Rodney is suggesting hard to implement? If not, I think it will be a great way to provide the much needed flexibiity for integration with core/custom profile modules.

I will have to agree.. As DotNetNuke matures, it will be a good thing to adapt a more robust profile model that can be integrated with other modules before too many other sites mature with age as well. The longer this gets delayed, the more complicated it will get for administrators, as well as other module developers (core & non-core) to seamlessly process the transition.

I don't need a MySpace looking page, but the User Profiles should at least include the functionality for the uploading of an image. Adapting models such as Digg.com would be nice as someone suggested, but all this cannot be done without the fundamentals being set.

I don't dare request a timeframe, as things will definitely need time to be figured out, but DNN will be a much more robust system had it had this addition alone by large dividends. All administrators/webmasters are looking at this with open eyes.. I am sure module developers would love the integration as well.
