In previous forum versions, there was a dataprovider dll seperate. This required reflection to be used to load an assembly and a class within in, this was typical for DNN 2 and 3.x modules. In the migration to 2.0, all was combined. On upgrade, any former forum dll files were deleted from the bin directory. The only thing I can think of is that your dll cache didn't clear the first time around, but I am not sure why or if that is even the case. The only reason the first time would have ever been looking for that in a seperate dll, however, is if it was still the old forum 3.x dll.

I got same error, followed these steps, did not loose any posts or threads.

  1. Delete all forum related DLLs in bin folder,
  2. Reinstall module.
  3. Also, do some dummy web.config editing. only to trigger .NET Framework recreation of all temporary files or you yourself delete from:
    C:\WINDOWS\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v2.0.50727\Temporary ASP.NET Files\(sitename)
