I suggest to uninstall the forum module, then chek the database.  I have see on early beta version on dnn that if a instal breaks, the database didn't uninstall on oninstalling the module.  So you have check the database for Forum artefacts and delete them manuelly.  Then I suggest a restart of the application pool, and try a new install of the module.

Thanks for the reply Matthias,

I thinks this is on the right track, but I don't know how it works. I did use an ealy version and the install did break. The database was restored by the hoster.

The forum module wasn't installed this time around. So I installed Forums and then removed it. The removeal process finished OK but with numerous errors.

IWhen I run Onyakech hostCommander I can see no tables that relate to Forums, but there are stored procedures remaining. It also has a couple of procedures that produce the following error when trying to HostCommander tries to get "object info"

"Sys.Webforms.PageRequestManagerServerErrorException: An unknown error occurred while processing the request on the server. The status code returned from the server was: 500"

How do I "delete them manually" using SQL management studion or host sql - I don't have access to the databse other than throgh these methods, the database is shared host.

These arrors appear when I try to install a number of modules. Sometimes the error are ignored and the module will install at other times the module will fail to install

Thanks

for your help.

Paul

With Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio Express you should get access to the database remotely with your username and password.  With this tool you should be able to modify your database.  If your hoster didn't allow remote access to the sql server he had to check the database for all forum artifacts and sould remove them.

On some hosting providers it is a need to change the database owner from "dbo"  to "your db username"in the web.config file before install DotNetNuke.  But I didn't know how your provider configure thier Servers.  So if Plesk is used it is a need to use it.  Also on Plesk you must install DotNetNuke on a subfolder of the root path.
