I've not changed the theme which looks like this one (I set it over 2 years ago and not touched it since).

It's not a webfarm either.  Using DNN 4.9.2 just because it's a development instance, a copy of the live one (which is 4.9.4) some time ago and not bothered updating as it's just been testing and I understood the differences were quite minor for the needs I have for this instance.

Why hasn't the forums module been tested here first?  I thought that was standard for DNN core modules and a part of the pre-release requirement.

I also get the jumping from body to subject. Seems to just be a page load thing if you start writing before it's finished loading.

I covered why the module isn't on here in my blog that announced it's release. Simply put, we could have held the release up another month (or potentially more) or we finally get the module out to the community. For me, its a no win situation either way because people are going to continue to ask why regardless of which path we took. That said, I think the decision to release it instead of waiting longer was the correct one especially since we have tested the dnn.com upgrade numbers of times already.

To touch on some other comments:

  • The subject/body 'jumping' actually goes back to a problem with Rich Text Editors from the FreeTextBox HTML provider days. The idea is that the user is directly navigated to the subject area (set focus) on the page load. In sites that load slow, this behavior you are seeing can occur. This has been a problem since the module was first publicly released.  Over the years, I am not certain, but this might be the first complaint I have seen about it.
  • The module works 100% without issue in a web farm, so long as nothing else has problems in the farm (meaning, you have it working with all other core modules, admin modules). The forum makes no use of Session in any code.

Chris-

Thanks for the explanation on why 4.5.3 isn't being dogfooded on DNN.com.  I think cutting a month or two off the release time was the right thing to do (in this instance).

As far as the "jumping" issue - glad to know it has been an outstanding issue.  In the 3+ years I've been here I never saw the problem until a week or two ago. Now I'm wondering as that was about the time I upgraded to FF 3.5.

I certainly get that on dotnetnuke.com and regularly muck up subject titles by accident - it's desirable on a new post but not on replying I would say.

I'm not sure in fact why we are allowed to change the subject title when replying to a thread? However If this is by design then maybe we could get around it by having an option to make the subject read only upon replies? (i.e. have it as a label rather than a textbox).

Thanks Chris...

I've upgraded the version of that development instance to 4.9.4 and will test the notifications more rigorously.

The ugly " Go to first unread Post" was still there so I looked at the code. I had duplicated the default theme and modified a background colour but nothing else was changed.

It seems this upgrade makes changes on the assumption the Default theme is applied.  Is there not a guide on changes to skinning?

In my case it as an easy fix to change the new default but I really wouldn't have expected DotNetNuke to make such changes where other themes are expected to be used and this now breaks those to a certain extent.

What I am seeingin the code is:

<a href="http://xxx/Forums/tabid/59/forumid/1/postid/409/scope/posts/Default.aspx#unread"><img border="0" src="/DesktopModules/Forum/Themes/ThemeUsed/Images/thread_newest.png" alt="Go to first unread Post" title="Go to first unread Post" /></a>

This is all new and as thread_newest.png is new - any theme other than the Default won't have this change and the alt tag appears.
