strange, PM has been removed from forums in latest version, not sure, why the view didn't get updated.

Cheers from Germany,

Sebastian,
Thanks for the reply.  Any ideas at all?  Did you see that I now have matching schemas on clean install versus the broken upgrade?  And that only a Hosts post is viewable?  I'm happy to keep digging if you have any ideas... also happy to post or send the data (as tables) from the broken site.  Can't figure this out for the life of me.  Hints?  Clues?  Where might you look next?

I have exactly the same error. I just upgraded dnn5.6 and forum 5.0, and none of the existing posts are readable. they generate the same error everone else is reporting:

DotNetNuke.Services.Exceptions.PageLoadException: Object reference not set to an instance of an object. ---> System.NullReferenceException: Object reference not set to an instance of an object. at DotNetNuke.Modules.Forum.Posts.RenderPostAuthor(HtmlTextWriter wr, PostInfo Post, Boolean PostCountIsEven) at DotNetNuke.Modules.Forum.Posts.RenderPost(HtmlTextWriter wr, PostInfo Post, Boolean PostCountIsEven) at DotNetNuke.Modules.Forum.Posts.RenderPosts(HtmlTextWriter wr) at DotNetNuke.Modules.Forum.Posts.RenderThread(HtmlTextWriter wr) at DotNetNuke.Modules.Forum.Posts.Render(HtmlTextWriter wr) at ....

I have tried all suggestions I have found (turn-off avatars, change editor, etc.), and nothing has changed the behavior. I am dead in the water, any other suggestions?

Hi All,
After a LOT of time with Redgate tools I can tell the dev team that the problem is with your update scripts. There seem to be just 3 areas that need attention.

vw_ForumUsers

and the columns

EnableDisplayInMemberList
EnablePM

I was only able to get things working by DELETING the module, removing the tables, reinstalling CLEAN to the mis-behaving portal and then (it still wouldn't work) correcting schema differences related to the above items between a version of DNN with Forums 5 that started at 5.5 and never had another forum instance. Hope this helps the developers figure out a hot fix.
