First of all; thanks Chris for fixing lots of issues.

Ok here is my question.

When I login as a user and try to post a new thread, in the attachment section it shows in red “You don't have permission to see the files on the site”.

When I login as admin I can see the files in root or I can select a file from the local hard disk.

Why can’t I add an attachment if I login as a user? I’m guessing here that if login as a user, they should only be able to add attachments from the local hard, and should not be able to see or select from the root… but I can’t test it as when login as a user it shows the message “You don't have permission to see the files on the site”.

My settings:
Forum Administration > General Settings
Post Attachments
  Enable File Attachment? Yes
  Anonymous Downloads? Yes

Is this a known issue or am I doing something wrong?

In addition to the above question…. now attachments actually works when login as admin but is there a way to display a picture as an embedded image on the post in line with the text?

Any help on this matter would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Dilshan,

I am not sure what the problem is you are having with attachments. It seemed in my testing to be working correctly, but that doesn't mean there isn't a bug. The error you are getting doesn't ring a bell as something even exposed by the forums so I am wondering if you are having some file manager permissions issues.

As for the picture, there are image settings and integration w/ the gallery module which can help you but...

I am ultimately looking for the html providers to provide image gallery accesss and to handle smilies. Since the newest default FTB has this I expect to see more html providers also offering this. My goal is in the next release to completely remove all dependancies on the Core Gallery module so the Forum module works alone.

Thanks for the reply Chris.
This happened after I removed the forum module from DNN 4.0.3 and added the new forum module.

Anyway I’ve just installed DNN 4.3.1 and it’s seems to be fine now but here is the latest.

When logged in as host or admin, everything is fine but when logged in as a user, they can only select attachments from a dropdown and they cannot upload any files from the local hard. Admin and host see the upload link just below the dropdown but users cannot see it. And also why are the files listed in a dropdown for users. Shouldn’t it just be a control where users can just upload files form local hard?

And also the biggest and probably the most critical issue is, when edit permission is given to the registered users; they can also edit the title of the from, which makes the forums sort of unusable.

Is there a way to fix these?

Regards,

- Dilshan

All those permissions are controlled via the file manager. If you notice the folders can be controlled by Read and Write and that is why they can see files and not upload. Please let me know if this is not the case as I will have to look harder into it.

As for the module title, I have said before this is a core problem IMO. It seems that only the persons who can edit module settings should be the ones who can edit the module title IMO.

For now you can use a container w/out a title. Considering how the module is you don't need the container to have a title anyways.

Thanks again Chris for the info.
Oops regarding the title edit question… well it’s my mistake not properly checking the threads for duplicate questions. And yes, without the container it doesn’t look too bad

Anyway, I don’t think you understood the other question. Here is it again.

You can check my forum settings here. http://www.weblk.com/test/ModuleSettings.JPG

And this is what I see when I login as an admin or host
http://www.weblk.com/test/AddorEditPost.JPG
As you can see, there is a link called ‘upload new file’ so the admin/host can upload files from the local hard disk, which is fine.

But here is the screen when login as a user
http://www.weblk.com/test/AddorEditPostforuser.JPG
As you can see here, ‘upload new file’ link is now missing so users can’t upload files from the local hard. And also when login as a user I don’t understand the point of having the dropdown there. Why not just remove the dropdowns and just display the ‘upload new file’ link?

Hope you now understand the problem.

Thanks again,

- Dilshan
