If I browse as localhost then I can load my  simple file, if I use Dnndev.me  binding it bounces straight to localstart

If you are using the default website then you should have no need of the binding. Try removing it. If you get a different result then there must be something wrong with the binding. The purpose of the binding is to resolve ambiguity if you have more than one Website on an IIS install.

You could use fiddler to watch the traffic between browser and site. It may give you more clues about the redirect.

Yes, if i remove the binding I can access the install pages.

I thought the binding was to allow direct debugging from within visual studio.

Suggests to me that there is something broken about the way you created the binding or the entry you put in the hosts file.

Well installation problems eventually came down to the SQL service browser not running, so we are now able to install.
