Hi,

I made a skin (put quite a lot effort on that) which is based on the dnn treeview menu. The skin is purely css based and the page size is only 7.7k (with pictures and text content in it).

1. The page using this new skin is noticeably loads slower than other existing pages on the site. Sometimes, it gets really slow.

2. Not only that, it seems that the loading speed of other pages (which do not use this new skin) became slower.

3. I did a lot of tests on this speed thing since I need to decide whether or not I should keep this treeview menu. The reason I can not make up my mind is that sometimes the treeview menu page can load fast. ( And this is not because of the page being idle for too long... )

So does dnn treeview menu have the performance issue at all? Is there anything I can do to improve that?

Thanks.

1.  Have you isolated your speed test from other events happening at the same time?  I am having a hard time grasping the meaning of really slow, or slower.  Got any real numbers?

2. So you are saying that if you change the skin on all pages from using the "new skin" to a different one, every other page on your site speeds up?

3.  The fact that it sometime loads fast and other times loads slow makes me think their is something else happening on the server.  If the same code is running over and over and you notice a performance difference, the fact that the code does not change points to another factor you have not considered (i.e. load on server, other processes, bandwidth, etc.).

Any chance you can provide a sample url to see this?

I only added the new skin to one page. The rest of pages still using the old skin. But even the other pages with the old skin seem to become slower after I added the new skin.

I thought about this... but the speed change is so obvious... and the treeview menu page does not load in a stable way...

Any chance you can provide a sample url to see this?

The page with treeview menu: http://www.dnnskin.com/Support/Beauty/tabid/410/Default.aspx

Thanks.

odove:

I noticed that your server is doing compression (by using www.port80software.com). Also, it is using "deflate" instead of "gzip". My experience is with gzip and it has always worked well. You can check my site www.almacigo.com or www.collegeparkjudo.org.

Also, did you setup IIS compression to also compress files of type ASPX and JS???

And as usual, knowing the hardware configuration of your server would also help, CPU, memory, disk subsystem, line speed, workload, etc. would be great additional info.

The page loads pretty fast for me, other than the picture on it of course.  Is there a reason this picture needs to be so large (280,623 bytes) ?

Could you define what you mean by load in a stable way?
