Use another new feature of DNN3.1.1:

Disable all languages you don't need, in Administration Menu, item Languages.

P.S. Please don't double post here and in Asp.Net Forums simultanously.

Sebastian, I'm not that sure this will work. I'm returning from some sunny days on the beach so I'm still not 100% but ...

Disabling a language will only remove it from all places where users can select it. But it will not make the resource files "invisible" to the core, so it by any mean someone requests a page using any "disabled" language it will work.

I think what you suggest has not been taken into consideration yet, will take a look.

This means that the only way to exclude a language from external viewing of the site is to completely remove it.

If you want to use a language for testing, development, etc. on pages that are not to be viewed by unregistered users, you by default have to create the situation where the external pages of you site can be viewed in that language.  Under 3.1.1 there is no way to force the language of your site.

The default language of the site should be just that, the default.  An external user, an unregistered user should not be able to change the appearance of your site.  That should be the privilege of registered users.  3.1.1 has taken away that privilege and taken control of the appearance of the site out of the hands of the administrator.

Vicenç,

thanks for your correction. I have not thought of this being possible: imho "disabled" should not only disable the selection option, but also all framework and content. That was my first thought, but now I am thinking of the situation, having a multiligual site running with DNN 3.7.2 (e.g.), and I want to support an additional language. How do I disable for users the option to select the new lanugage, while I am still not finished adding content? so maybe the disabeled language should only prevent access from non-authenticated users; this would be consistent with premium modules: if I revoke access to a module for I specific site, the module is neither deleted from pages, where is is already placed nor disabled. It only cannot be added to pages any more, as it is not displayed in the selector box.

In both cases I would like to have a help text and confirmation message, stating this situation after disabling a language/module, so the admin get to know the consequences.

Sebastian

I remember we talked in the asp.net forum about this problem (see this post: http://forums.asp.net/975007/ShowPost.aspx). The solution suggested there was to add a checkbox "Fixed" to the portal language settings. This option would then override the now introduced client dependent behaviour.

Apart from that... i think i misunderstood the "disable language" feature as well. Disable means its turned off... the way it works now should be called "hide language" instead.

cheers,
