Well crap. I really don't understand why or how the daily comic would be affecting logins now that it's been wiped out. Especially when it looks to me (and I could be wrong) that why you're getting that error in the eventlog is because it's trying to build the .dll at runtime.

I haven't tried this in a production environment but I have on my dev setup without any issues. When I've run into something funky I've shut everything done (stopped IIS, the application pool, closed any browser windows, etc.) and then deleted the temporary directory completely. Then fired everything backup and let .NET recreate it from a fresh copy. The only other thing I can think of is that when it uninstalled something somewhere didn't get uninstalled correctly from on of the DNN tables (the module itself only has one table and 3 stored procedures). This is an area where I'm not sure with DNN/.NET 2.0 where if it detects a module listed but no .dll it tries to compile it on the fly. Maybe check the Modules and DesktopModules tables to make sure no reference to DailyComic is listed.

I haven't had a chance to work on it for the last few days, but I'll start again in the morning.  A couple of questions:

1.  Is it possible that the only people being affected are the people that have customized the comic they view?

2.  What are the names of the tables and stored procedures?  I'll check to see if they didn't uninstall.

1.) I guess it's possible but if the module isn't there anymore it shouldn't be looking for it (unless somehow things are being cached on the site somewhere).

2.) Ummm, the table is CTASoft_DailyComic and the sprocs are CTASoft_GetDailyComic, CTASoft_SetDailyComic, and CTASoft_UpdateDailyComic.

Well, I shutdown the server, doing everything just as you described, emptied the DNN recycle bin, purged the cache, etc...

Same error...

I did a search for any file containing "dailycomic" on the entire system, none found.  I did a search for every file that "contained" that phrase, and the only things found were the log files.

I'm definitely at a loss...  AD authentication is down and out for the count for the people that actually need to log in.

Well, I'm making some progress... Tracking down other errors, I found that the SimpleAuth.asmx file (and associated files) is missing entirely from the server.  Since it is referenced in the web.config, where is this file supposed to be, and what is supposed to install it?
