I tried impersonation as outlined in the documentation.  That doesn't solve the issue.   I still have 4 individuals who cannot login, while 10+ users can.  Plus I still receive the error message I posted above.  It just doesn't make sense ;-(

Any other ideas, cause I am at a loss!

Ummmm you could try a little program called LDAPBrowser (http://www.ldapbrowser.com) and try to see if it can pull information about those users just as a check. I'm just guessing at this point and it might give us a direction for you to go in.
