Thanks Mike, Ive downloaded LDAP BRowser, very nice utility.  Dam AD, I keep getting the below error message with my ldap user account using LDAPbrowser. However, what is strange is that I can use the Microsoft LDP program, connect to the schema, then bind using NTLM/Kerberos and I get schema/object access view using the ldap user. I think LDAP Browser only supports Simple Authentication.

Strong Authentication Required
LDAPException: Strong Authentication Required (8) Strong Authentication Required
LDAPException: Server Message: 00002028: LdapErr: DSID-0C09018A, comment: The server requires binds to turn on integrity checking if SSL\TLS are not already active on the connection, data 0, vece

Sorry forgot to ask what the dsHeuristics attribute should be under AD?  (Found using ADSI Edit under CN=Directory Services). I know this controls the way you bind to the LDAP service. Should the value their match the value in the DNN AD Authentication Type field?

At the moment it is set to 000002 (Anonymous access), this is because we have photocopier/scan units using the LDAP lookup feature and they wont work using a secure authentication. I tried setting the DNN AD module to anonymous which validates all the settings as ok, however, the logins still fail, even using impersonation.

Any ideas Mike? (Thank you for your help so far)

Good question and I don't know the answer.  I'll try to make some time today so that I can investigate this further but based on LDAPBrowser not wanting to connect to your AD I suspect that's why the AD Provider doesn't want to either. Unfortunately I don't have a setup such as yours (needing strong authentication) to test against so most of what I end up suggesting is going to be based on hunches.

Has the solution to this issue been found? We are experiencing the exact same issue. This is for an Extranet site. We have 2 domains root.loc and <child>.loc. The users and DNN server are in the <child>.loc domain. When I uncomment the authentication httpModule, I get the popup to authenticate and can successfully login. However, we do not want the browser popup. Instead, we want to use the imbedded DNN Windows Login form. However, we are experiencing the same issue as listed above. Any ideas?

Roger...which issue do you get? The password is case sensitive message? Can you give me the details of your DNN setup and what version of the AD provider you're using?
