To start testing, I setup AD the same as live, and then I logged out.  Immediately I saw a change.  On the live server, when I log out, I'm taken to the homepage.  On the test server though, I'm taken to the login page after logging out.

Update: I copied the web.config file to the live server with the modifications.  The live server has the same "homepage" as the page seen when logged out.  As I said, I don't know if this discrepency is relevant.

I'm not sure about DNN5 (not running it yet), but in 4.9.3 there is an option in the Admin->User Accounts->User Settings menu that allows you to specify where to redirect the user upon login/logout.   You might want to check that menu to see if anything is specified.

As for the logging out, I'm not really sure.  I "thought" it would work that if you logged out manually it would log you back in automatically the next time you opened the browser.  But, apparently I'm wrong, I just tested it here to make sure and it kept me logged out even after restarting the browser.  However, I left myself logged out and a few hours later I opened the browser and I was logged out again...  Go figure.

I'm out of ideas.  I implemented the script in the global file to automatically login as mentioned a few posts back, and it seems to do the job.  The only issues are that it doesn't direct the user to the requested page (only the home page) and authentication is terribly slow, up to 15 seconds sometimes. 

Would you happen to know a work around for either of these issues?  If not, I will start a new post and close this out because I don't see a resolution to the other issue in sight.

Resolution: Downgraded to version 4.9 today.  1 user out of 300 did not automatically authenticate, and they're on an old win 2k IE 6 machine.  Also, instead of taking 15 seconds or so to authenticate, it's done before I start my watch.

Perhaps it's because of our win 2k domain conflicting with version 5.x, but for the time being, I'm satisfied that it appears to be working on the older version.

Thanks for the update Jameison. It gives me something more to work with as far as testing goes.
