Two separate things Kevin. Alma's problem was incorrect case in a web.config variable (think C++/C# where a variable has to be typed the same whenever it's used vs. VB where you can type it however you want and it'll work).

You're Gemini issue may effect any direct updates that are applied to the user under (Admin->User Accounts) but it won't effect users getting logged in via AD.

I've just been playing with the AD module for the first time really. But I noticed that it creates the entrys in the user table of the database  for you basically automatically when a user logs in using domain\user, in my case domain\firstname.lastname.  I haven't dug into it yet but I assume because it's now using windowssignin.aspx vs login.aspx that it's not using the normal user tables to log in with?

I like this module already just need to play with it a bit. I would love for my users to be auto logged in when they are in house and attached to the domain or connected via vpn and be able to log in manually when they are at the airport or what ever. I also need users that aren't in the domain to be able to log in.

This will get me out of the username/password management business, typically i have a user that forgets their password at least 3 or 4 times a month and can't read to find the send password function.

Having a bit of trouble getting the auto log in feature to work. still get the log in screen only with the two options now.

I have recently upgraded to DNN v5 and the new version of AD Authentication module. I have tried to run using forms authentication and although it appears to auto login my user when I rdp to our DEV server as a test user that hasn't been created already then I try to login and choose Windows login. I enter user details (existing AD user) and it then redirects to the home page and displays "A critical error has occurred. Unknown UserCreateStatus value encountered Parameter name: UserRegistrationStatus". If I login using Windows login and provide an existing DNN and AD user everything works okay. When I use windows authentication in my web.config and try to login with the new user then it just loops until I close of the browser session. If I login as an existing DNN user in windows authentication everything works okay.

Can anyone advise whether I should be using windows or forms authentication - I only use the website internally. Also, can someone advise on the various errors I am experiencing?

It should be setup using forms authentication. Is the dev server the same server that DNN is installed on? I have heard of a problem when trying to logon from the server that DNN is installed on but I haven't tested against a DNN 5 install. On DNN 4 the problem was that it just wouldn't auto login but manual login worked fine.

Mike,

Thanks for the response. Yes the DEV server is where the DNN is installed. I will try to login to my PC as the test user and navigate to the site. I will post the results. I will also change my web.config to use forms authentication.

Hi all,

I have gone through the motions with impersonation and I am still getting the "Error: is currently unavailable.
DotNetNuke.Services.Exceptions.ModuleLoadException: Object reference not set to an instance of an object. ---> System.NullReferenceException: Object reference not set to an instance of an object. at DotNetNuke.Authentication.ActiveDirectory.Settings.UpdateSettings() --- End of inner exception stack trace --->" message. I cannot seem to get AD enabled at all. My DC is on a separate machine from my DNN install.

Kevin, what DNN version are you running and what version of the AD provider? Is the webserver on the domain? When you go to do the settings are the two drop-down list boxes populated and you get the error after entering the information and click Update Settings or is it happening before then? It looks like it's happening when you click Update Settings but I want to be sure. Is it possible that the webserver cannot talk to the DC? I.E. do you log onto the webserver with a domain account or just a local admin account?

I'll wait for your answers to those questions before I fire more at you.
