Ah, I think I see something I missed -- in Web.Config, I needed to uncomment the HTTP.AUTHENTICATION line in the modules section as well.   Everything appears to be working as expected now.    Further testing to come.

These are not the droids you are looking for.  You may go about your business.

danielliu8,
I know you posted this quite a while ago but this may be of interest to others as well.
If you want your network login to be a Superuser you can manually add your network login to Host - SuperUsers Accounts.  Make sure you create your username in DOMAIN\username format.  Then when you login you'll have SuperUser permissions.
I also use Firefox so I went to about:config in Firefox and changed network.automatic-ntlm-auth.trusted-uris to intranet (the url of my intranet) so I get auto-login.  I work for a school and we use Firefox exclusively.  I push it out through AD and have the login script change Firefox settings as needed.

The greatest and the least among men have this in common: a high priority vigorously pursued.

And so the fun begins with 4.5.0 and AD.

  • Clean install of 4.5.0, fresh database.
  • In ADMIN / AUTHENTICATION, checked the "Windows Authentication" box and the "Synchronize Role" box.  Clicked UPDATE, and the return message showed that authentication test was successful
  • Modifed WEB.CONFIG and commented out the FORMS authentication, uncommented the WINDOWS authentication section
  • In IIS, modified file properties on WINDOWS_SIGNIN.ASPX in /admin/security folder to disallow anonymous access (verified Integrated Windows was checked as well)
  • Verified that browser was set to have new website as TRUSTED.

and....   nothing.

Oddly enough, keeping everything exactly the same but changing the authentication model back to FORMS in the web.config file, I can now log in with the AD username and password and see the expected display name on the home page (and in the appropriate database table).  But the 'auto login' portion of the program is not working as expected.

Thoughts?

Hi guys... i am trying to avoid the IIS authentication on my site and i already made this changes except the modification on the web.config because i don´t understand clearly what has to be done.

Would you please be more especific on this step. I already made the AD authentication work but is annoying that every time a external user open the page the windows authentication appears.

PLease help me, especially on step 3 :

  • Modifed WEB.CONFIG and commented out the FORMS authentication, uncommented the WINDOWS authentication section )
  •

jkamilo, in order to get authentication to work with external users you have to comment out the <add name="Authentication"....../>. Otherwise it will always redirect the site to the windowssignin.aspx page when the site is launched. The side effect of this is that no users automatically become logged in so what I've done on the AD site I administrate at work is that I've put links on a couple of pages that point to windowssignin.aspx so that internal can just click the link and they get logged in.
