I am having the same problem except I get thumbnails for some images and not for others. Here is an example of what I'm talking about - http://www.catholicconvert.com/Default.aspx?tabid=114. I actually uploaded my pictures through FTP since I have a bunch of them and just did a refresh. I've tried deleting the _metadata.resources file and then did a refresh and got the same result. I have also verified that their are thumbnails in the _thumbs directory.

Oddly enough, placing the images in a sub-album actually fixes the problem. So, it seems that the problem is with images that reside in the root of the album... at least that's how it is for me.
