Can anyone guide me on how to start customizing the module?

Thanks!

Hi Kerryduan,

to enable debugging:

  1. Make sure the project compiles without errors;
  2. Make sure the compiled .dll libraries overwrite the original ones in the bin folder;
  3. Copy the debug symbols to the bin folder;
  4. Select Debug > Attach to process and select the ASP.Net project.

Let me know if you find any problems.

Best regards,
Dario Rossa

Sorry Dario,

I'm still not sure on how to start customizing the blog module. Right now I have installed Blog_03.05.01_Source.zip for my portal. from here how should i start customizing?

I have copied some of the folders over to app_code and excluded the .dlls in bin folder. but there is still lot of errors saying this and that control is not found.

Pls help~

Thanks!!

Hi Kerryduan,

since the Blog module uses the WAP model, you don't need any source code in the dnn website, expecially in the app_code folder. Just copy the compiled dlls to the dotnetnuke's bin folder and you are done. You can even develop your module in a separate folder on the hard drive and copy all the ascx controls and dlls to their place for testing and deploying (this is the environment I used in the past).

Best regards,
Dario Rossa

Hi Dario, That was pretty helpful since I faced the same issue. Probably due to being a noob here! Although would you able to tell me where the dll's of the Blog module placed after they are compiled. I have checked in my website, the DotNetNuke.Modules.Blog.dll in bin folder of my site is not being replaced. Once I change something like ViewBlog.ascx.vb where does the new dll get created? I tried to look through the DNN_Blog.dnn file but not sure still.
