I just did a fresh install of DNN 4.3.7... but can't login after installing... then I went back and noticed that web.config minPassword... was set to 7... then re-read the documentation, then changed minPassword to 4.  I've tried host/host, host/dnnhost, dnnhost/dnnhost... and now I'm justing getting irritated.

the default home page doesn't say (like it used to... a security risk, but nice)... the pdf documentation doesn't say what the default is either (it just says you need to set minPassword to 4 if you want to be compatible with host/host).

Could someone please post the default password or a fix for having a sql database that won't allow the default password to work...  I'm stumped and annoyed... I'm sure I'll be very pleased when I can access my site.

thanks.

default password are:

host - dnnhost
admin - dnnadmin

Revert the changes you done to your web.config file and any other file. You should be able to access it.

Make sure you have the correct connection string commented out in the web.config.  The default uses SQL Server 2005 Express connection string and has the SQL Server 2005 connection string commented out. If you are using SQL Server 2005, then you have to change the commenting for the connection string in two places.

Originally, I had several problems uploading.  Kept getting an error saying could not connect to the database specified in the connection string.  Later on I realized that I hadn't changed the commenting in the web.config and left it using the SQL 2005 Express instead of the SQL 2005 connection string.  When I moved the comments, it worked, but that's when I couldn't log in as host (pw: dnnhost) or admin (pw: dnnadmin).

I thought to just do a FRESH install and use the correct web.config the first time, thinking that maybe the earlier hangup in the installation caused something to go awry in the database.

And so, I wiped everything, reinstalled and used the corrected commenting in the web.config, ran the installation and IT WORKED!

I just ran into this issue and was able to resolve it by closing IE (all instances) and then opening IE again and trying to log in.  I guess there was a session cookie messed up somewhere or something.
