Not sure if this is one problem or two. I am using DNN 3.

(1) I put an asp:HyperLink on my View control and set " NavigateUrl='<%# EditUrl()%>' ". At run time, the hyperlink appears as just a label, and when I do a "view source" I see there is no "href" in the "<a>...</a>" tags. I have displayed the result of Edit_Url() in an actual label on my page, and I get "http://localhost/DotNetNuke/SPGFinancialData/tabid/53/ctl/Edit/mid/369/Default.aspx" which seems about right.

(2) I tried using a button control, and in its event handler I put "Response.Redirect(EditUrl())". This takes me to the Edit control; I can tell by the title shown on the module. However, I get this error message: "An error has occurred.
Error: Edit Financial Data is currently unavailable." Note that "Edit Financial Data" is my edit control. I don't know why it should be unavailable; it is in the same directory as the View control and compiles fine. I even removed all the logic from the Page_Load to see if there were any odd run-time errors in my code.

Any ideas? Thanks.

The problem with the link was fixed when I added Page.Databind() to my Page_Load event. But when I click the link, I get the same error as when I use the button (see original post). The full error message is:

Error: Edit Financial Data is currently unavailable.
DotNetNuke.Services.Exceptions.ModuleLoadException: External component has thrown an exception. ---> System.Web.HttpException: External component has thrown an exception. ---> System.Web.HttpCompileException: External component has thrown an exception. at System.Web.Compilation.BaseCompiler.ThrowIfCompilerErrors(CompilerResults results, CodeDomProvider codeProvider, CodeCompileUnit sourceData, String sourceFile, String sourceString) at System.Web.Compilation.BaseCompiler.GetCompiledType() at System.Web.UI.UserControlParser.CompileIntoType() at System.Web.UI.TemplateParser.GetParserCacheItemThroughCompilation() --- End of inner exception stack trace --- at System.Web.UI.TemplateParser.GetParserCacheItemInternal(Boolean fCreateIfNotFound) at System.Web.UI.TemplateParser.GetParserCacheItem() at System.Web.UI.TemplateControlParser.CompileAndGetParserCacheItem(String virtualPath, String inputFile, HttpContext context) at System.Web.UI.TemplateControlParser.GetCompiledType(String virtualPath, String inputFile, HttpContext context) at System.Web.UI.UserControlParser.GetCompiledUserControlType(String virtualPath, String inputFile, HttpContext context) at System.Web.UI.TemplateControl.LoadControl(String virtualPath) at DotNetNuke.UI.Skins.Skin.InjectModule(Control objPane, ModuleInfo objModule, PortalSettings PortalSettings) --- End of inner exception stack trace ---

Any clues?

The first problem was that the URL did not appear for the link because IsEditable had not been evaluated; I added a Page.Databind() which fixed that problem. The second problem is something I should have checked right away. My Edit control did not load because there was a typo in the ASCX file, which did not cause compile problems but did bomb at run time.
