Hi,

I was very pleased to have completed my DNN 4.4.0 install so quickly with our new web host. However, after install I soon received an error which has now twice completely messed up my installation. Here's what happened.

First, I updated the passwords for host and admin. Then, I simply changed the skin to another option, the 'vertical menu full width'. BOTH times I did this, I've received a terminal error:

An error has occurred.
DotNetNuke.Services.Exceptions.PageLoadException: Value cannot be null. Parameter name: type ---> System.ArgumentNullException: Value cannot be null. Parameter name: type at System.Activator.CreateInstance(Type type, Boolean nonPublic) at DotNetNuke.Framework.Reflection.CreateObject(String TypeName, String CacheKey, Boolean UseCache) at DotNetNuke.Framework.Reflection.CreateObject(String ObjectProviderType, String ObjectProviderName, String ObjectNamespace, String ObjectAssemblyName, Boolean UseCache) at DotNetNuke.Modules.NavigationProvider.NavigationProvider.Instance(String FriendlyName) at DotNetNuke.UI.Skins.NavObjectBase.InitializeNavControl(Control objParent, String strDefaultProvider) at DotNetNuke.UI.Skins.Controls.TreeViewMenu.OnInit(EventArgs e) at System.Web.UI.Control.InitRecursive(Control namingContainer) at System.Web.UI.Control.InitRecursive(Control namingContainer) at System.Web.UI.Control.InitRecursive(Control namingContainer) at System.Web.UI.Control.AddedControl(Control control, Int32 index) at System.Web.UI.ControlCollection.Add(Control child) at DotNetNuke.Framework.DefaultPage.Page_Init(Object sender, EventArgs e) at System.Web.UI.Control.OnInit(EventArgs e) at System.Web.UI.Page.OnInit(EventArgs e) at DotNetNuke.Framework.PageBase.OnInit(EventArgs e) at System.Web.UI.Control.InitRecursive(Control namingContainer) at System.Web.UI.Page.ProcessRequestMain(Boolean includeStagesBeforeAsyncPoint, Boolean includeStagesAfterAsyncPoint) --- End of inner exception stack trace ---

The URL went to:
http://my.submdomain.107.webhostforasp.net/Default.aspx?tabid=49&error=Value+cannot+be+null.%0d%0aParameter+name%3a+type&content=0

________

Now, I cannot access a single page - either being logged in or not. The error I get now that I have logged out is simply:

"An error has occurred.
An error has occurred."

I cannot seem to fix this problem without uninstalling, again. What is causing this error, and how can I fix it??? Thank you in advance.

Also forgot to mention the install is with SQL 2005 option.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. :)

Hi,

I have the same problem. After finally being able to install it on a remote hosting, changed the menu from horizontal to vertical, and the site died... displayes only a red ! and "An error has occurred.
An error has occurred." and the url redirects to /Default.aspx?tabid=36&error=Value+cannot+be+null.%0d%0aParameter+name%3a+type&content=0 . I don't even know how to login anymore. Do I need to deleted everything and reinstall?? can I somehow clear the database? some other suggestions?

Ok, problem solved, in another thread mentions some DLLs were left out in 4.4.0 from the bin dir. If you copy them from the 4.3.7, it will work.
