I'm still learning DotNetNuke and, to a lesser extent, ASP.NET. It's my understanding that a cross-page postback is a trivial matter in ASP.NET. I should be able to post to another page and then use the following line of code to retreive values from the previous page...

strStringVariable = CType(Page.PreviousPage.FindControl("TextBox1"), TextBox).Text

This doesn't work in DNN. There doesn't even seem to be a previous page. Certainly enough, the Page.IsCrossPagePostBack member returns False. I'm guessing DNN does something a little different in this case.

All I need to do is send values from a module on one page to a module on another page. There must be a simple mechanism to do what I need it to do. Can anyone tell me how?

thanks,

russ...

DNN only has one page that posts to itself: The default.aspx. Therefore there cannot be cross page posting. To pass values, you can use querystrings, viewstate, session variables or IMC (inter module communication). There's plenty of info in the documentation zip available from the downloads section.

Considering that every "tab/page" within dotnetnuke uses the same page (default.aspx), I am not sure that crosspagepostbacks has much to do with DotNetNuke, unless you are creating an aspx page outside of dotnetnuke.

The values that are posted should simply be available as request("TextBox1") (though you will really need the clientid so it will be something like dnn:ctr:TextBox1.

I'm looking at the documentation (presumably the Client API documentation) and I'm still a little confused. It looks like I'm going to want to use GetVar and SetVar but I don't see exactly where or how to use these values. Is there a quick and dirty sample that will show how to enter data into a field, click a button, and have that field data copied to a field in another module on another tab? That would pretty much cover the basics of what I need to do.

thanks,

I don't think you even need to mess with the clientapi here,  for you already have your values being roundtripped (in textboxes).  In other words, what you need should already be found in the Request.Form collection.
