I'm looking for a way to convert files such as windows media player AVI, MPEG etc to Flash on the fly when a user uploads the file. Has this been done using any dotnetnuke module or .net plug-in of some sort?

Basically I want the user to be able to upload their video. The view their video but in Flash format in order to save on server disk space, load time etc.

Any ideas are greatly appreciated.

Regards,

Patrick

Have you tried using ffmpeg?

I built a module where a user can upload just about any type of video file, and it's converted automatically to an flv file on the server, using ffmpeg. The problem is uploading large files to the server. Just can't get it to work...

If you use ffmpeg as a process, and start it with command line args, it should work.

I haven't tried that yet. I'll give that a shot. BTW at about what size file does it stop working?

I wonder, if you put a files size limit on the upload that may help. I see YouTube limits the size or time to convert.

If you plan on selling the module I might be quite interested.

Patrick

I also just found this wrapper for ffmpeg in C#

Excerpt >
SharpFFmpeg is a C# binding of ffmpeg. The goal of SharpFFmpeg is to provide the facility that allows .NET developers to easily create audio and video applications.

http://sourceforge.net/projects/sharpffmpeg

I'll give this a try as well.
