I am hoping it is something I just have overlooked.  My plan is simple, I would like to have a log displayed if they user has one enabled, and if not or if they want both, the text name of their site in the header.

I did not find this as easy as I thought it would be.  The only answer I have is to place the name in a div (grabbed dynamically from portal data) and have a CSS flag on the div to hid it if they do not want the company text name shown.

Is there an easier way?  I noticed that one some skins they add a logo pane to get around this so that the user can put what text they want up there.  The problem with that modules get wrapped with "normal" class so there is no way to add the styles from the skin to the header automatically, the person building out the site would have to use HTML to specify color, font, size, etc. which seems to be more appointed to the skin.

Am I making this harder than it should be?  Is there an easier way to have a logo and the title of a site appear in the header together (meaning the place on the skin where this information would look best, on my current skin the upper left side)?

Also, the logo graphic sent out with DNN appears horrible on darker backgrounds.  Not real good for testing the appearance of logo's ;)

Any help would be appreciated!

I am not absolutly clear what you need, but here is what I think you mean - However, if you go the Module way to add a logo and title in text, You can add a container to that module that has a Div around the container with an id="whatever... and in css you have #whatever .Normal { } class changed to a font of your choice.

Yeah, that is what I was thinking, however, opening that area as a pane causes some size limitions in height while in admin mode.  Another problem with the module method is that the user then has to use a blank module container or it really looks bad.

What would be cool is if DNN provided a means to say if you want the logo, title text or both to be displayed on a skin.  This setting would eliminate the problem.  Guess I will just have to work around it.

Was curious though what others do for public/commerical skins on the issue.  The built in skins use a logo only method.  So the question is, what do you use:

1) a logo only method as DNN does on its sample skins (which seems to mean the end user will have to have a graphic title even if just text would do)

2) a logo with a logo pane to allow text to be entered next to the logo

3) display the logo and pull in the title from the portal data and display it in a div

4) other

Any up for a poll?
