In an environment where a smart card is required to login to the domain means users do not know passwords. We have numerous intranets and are mandated to SSL enable all of them. That means we have to resort to numerous child portals. In a parent portal configuration you can force an Active Directory login by typing http://website/admin/security/windowssignin.aspx but can it be done on a child portal? The web.config and child portal have both been set for Windows Authentication but the user account does not get created. Any help or insight in getting this to work would be greatly appreciated. BTW, account creation works correctly on parent portals, even with the use of a smart card.

Ultimately, if Windows Authentication is selected there should be an option for the register link to automatically launch the windowssignin.aspx.

I can offer a suggestion on the SSL part of your message.

My SSL_Module on Snowcovered Click Here can secure the login and any other page on any number of child portals from a single parent portal's certificate.  Please contact me off list if you have any questions about my module.

However, since you are running an intranet, you might want to consider running your entire site in secure mode.  It is primarily an IIS configuration issue.  This is the simplest way for what looks like a complicated situation.
