Hello,

I need some help with saving custom user profile properties to the database - I am new to dnn.
I have read all the documents and searched this forum, but didn't find something like "best practice of handling a users profile".

This is my problem:
In a module I read the user data with:
        UserController userCtrl = new UserController();
         _userProfileInfo = userCtrl.GetUser(portalId, userId);
// or better DotNetNuke.Security.Membership.MembershipProvider.Instance().GetUser?????

In a function I set a profile property:
            ProfilePropertyDefinition def = new ProfilePropertyDefinition();
            def.PropertyName = key;
            def.PropertyValue = value;
            userInfo.Profile.ProfileProperties.Add(def);

Another function for saving:
DotNetNuke.Security.Membership.MembershipProvider.Instance().UpdateUser(userInfo);

The problem is that my changes to the profile properties are not in the database???

Please help me

I have solved it. The failure was the setting of the properties. It has to be done this way:

        ProfilePropertyDefinition def = ProfileController.GetPropertyDefinitionByName(portalId, key);
            if (def == null)
                def = new ProfilePropertyDefinition();
            def.PropertyName = key;
            def.PropertyValue = value;
            userInfo.Profile.ProfileProperties.Add(def);

Thank you
Torres
