We've had a bit of a challenge here with some custom modules that were created by a third-party developer. This particular developer isn't around any longer to offer support.

I have a copy of the source code that was provided by this developer, but I discovered that the .dnn module def files that I have are not the most recent version. On my new dev site, a module shows up with a version number and a controller class, but it's different information from what pulls up on the site the developer set up for us.

Is there a way to export the module def info into a .dnn file from the "live" site so that we can use it on the "dev" site?

Alternately, if someone can point me towards which db tables I need to compare, that'd be helpful as well. I've looked at all the module and desktop module tables, but is there anything else?

Thanks in advance!

Michael

There is a core option in the host menu under module definitions to export a module (create .dnn file from it)... it's not perfect, but can give you a starting point.

As for the tables... for module definition, 3 tables are relevant (in the same order):

- DesktopModules
- ModulesDefinitions
- ModuleControls

and to check existing instances of the module:

- Modules (by ModuleDefId) - instances of each module
- TabModules - copies of each instance of a module over different tabs

Hi Vladan:

I should have mentioned that I'm running DNN 4.3.5 rather than the newest one due to some of these modules that were created for us (the dev said we couldn't upgrade from 4.3.5 at this time).

Does this option exist in this version? I'm having difficulty locating it.

Hmm..... sorry for recomending this... I've checked now and it seems that it has been removed from the latest few versions of DNN (including yours). Which is strange to me, although it has been perfoming poorly (everything but the basic scenarios could not work), it had at least worked...

How big is that module? Why don't you do it manually?

Thanks,
