Hello

I've recently installed the newest framework for DNN as I am converting an html site into DNN to use as a content management system for a client.  I'm kinda stuck on the skinning as it seems a little overwhelming at first. The design is very basic with a header image that is different for each page, a horizontal menu, a content area, and a footer area.  My biggest confusion is between the skins and containers and what steps i should be doing first.  Is it a good idea to take one of the existing skins DNN-Gray or DNN-Blue and copy their folders and modify the files to fit my site?

Thanks

The skin is the basic layout of the page.
A container is the border around a module, which can contain the module title, a print icon etc.
For both you can change the layout by creating your own variations.

Yes this is mostly the easiest way to start. Take one of the skins and strip out everything you need.
Then you can delete some panes and change the CSS.

Your proposed method of learning is good. Also, there are large number of free skins available out there, Just google it and a lot will show up. Start with the HTML skins, unpack them and study how the added skin tokens translate into content pane for your module when uploaded to your portal. Also studdy the way the portal translates the HTML files into ascx which is used by the skinning engine.

Welcome to DotNetNuke!
Just a few words of advice from me... don't leave out the login or menu, and don't be ashamed to ask questions here on the forums.  Even the great ones had to learn at one time.
Best regards,

Thanks for the welcoming...The design that i have for the site has its own menu done with images...will this be a problem? the site also doesn't have a login link visible, is there a way around having to show the login and the menu....or am i misunderstanding your statement?
