I would contact your ISP and ask them for the proper values for your SQL Server connection.  This is something that they should be able to tell you, as without this information you will not be able to setup any database driven application DNN or otherwise.

I have contacted my ISP.  They say the server name is "localhost".  I have tried that as well as (local).

My ISP says the name of the server is "localhost".  The only thing I have not actually tried yet is the IP address and port.

I had similar problems with my install tonight -- I've got a separate SQL Server and I was using it's IP address (like I have in other web.config files) but it wouldn't connect.  I changed the IP to the machine name of the SQL server and it worked.  ie: connectionString="data source=sqlservername;

If your ISP has a separate SQL server, then I'd think it would have a different name than localhost.....

My ISP keeps telling me that the name really is localhost and it is not a separate server.  I always get an error when I try to create the database, but when I list the databases it shows mine as having been created.  I still cannot connect, though, so I think it's a problem with the ISP.  I am on the verge of switching to someone else who has more experience with DNN.
