I agree that this is a significant problem in that situation. The ability to set the location for files should be a 'host-only' function.

We will address that in the next build which is tentatively scheduled for mid-January or sooner. ( Our goal is to have updates available every 30 days )

Whoa! Having the source to this build is infinitely more important to some of us than having another build without source. Refering back to the original topic of this thread: When will source be made available?*

*Message for DNN "Management":
It is disconcerting to see a project lead making statements about another build without having released the current build. (Some of us do not consider anything in an Open Source project released until we compile it.) While it's nice to see what the Repository module will do, without source it's just a cute distraction.

With source, a module as promising as Repository might be a serious boost to our applications and in choosing to promote and support DNN. For some of us, the first word in Open Source is redundant. If DNN is going to release anything without source, it ain't Open Source.

The official DNN site is announcing this module as released. DNN is Open Source. So where's the source to this module? Or am I misunderstanding "Open Source"?

I feel you are being a bit dramatic about this.   While I agree that the source should have been released at the same time, I don't think we are no longer open source.  I really wish all of you understood what all it takes to get something done around here, then maybe posts like this wouldn't occur as often.  I cannot speak for Steve as to why this isn't out yet or when it will be available.  I can say that things are beyond the control of just Steve and that if  you are a true open source advocate you would probably encourage daily builds, which aren't going to happen.  My point is not to bash you in anyways quaker199, it is to enlighten you that open source is just not what you perceive it to be.

Being as this is my first release of the Repository as an official DotNetNuke project, I am still learning the proper procedures that need to be followed to get a release posted on DotNetNuke. It's not like it used to be when I had 100% control of not only the module, but the release by simply posting a new .zip file on my web site.

I plan to prepare the source version today and will contact those who can place it on the DotNetNuke project page for download.

Thank you for your patience

I'm not getting down on you. You're a hero. May the god you worship bless your fingers and your family--both must be feeling the effects of your work. Neither am I blustering about Open Source purism (response to Crispy*).  Please do not mistake my comments as critical of what you are doing or what you have done.  Quite the opposite is the case.

Repository has the potential of being a huge breakthrough in DNN's development. Repository is an abstraction of DNN much as DNN is an abstraction of ASP.NET. If DNN is an application framework, Repository is an "application surface".

Repository has the potential of bringing into DNN the next level of developer--the informally trained developer who will never develop a custom module but can cut a lot of code. This tier represents the biggest segment of the developer market.

I'm not saying that Repository will set off a stampede to DNN or if it does that it will do it alone. Gallery and Forum are also following this "application surface" trend. Repository is not just another module. Much more is being done than just adding functionality to DNN. DNN is being extended. As ASP.NET subsumes parts of DNN, perhaps DNN provides collections of "application surfaces" such as the Gallery-Forum-Repository surface.

Repository is big news and the noise I am making about wanting it is good news, not bad.

*I wish you could have been in the room about four years ago when I was trying to sell IBShaunWalker as an open source framework. My competitors were PHP Eunuchs who called me every name in the book except the one that would have helped me--"open source fanatic".  I won the contract even though I was labeled "anti-open source" for choosing DNN (the name changed by the time I got the contract and I was even accused of changing the name myself to make it appear Open Source). Advocating daily builds?  Not in my world. I'm not nuts. I just want source with Open Source projects.  Is that so dramatic?
