Hello

I started to work on an own Portal some weeks ago for a Project at school. Im pretty amazed what dnn can do, and I was able to help myself out most of the time. Now I spend some hours in front of my notebook with a problem, for which the solution is very hard to find with the search function or google. So im asking here:

My DNN works completly fine in Localhost, but as soon as I try to reach the Portal from outside I dont get any answer. When I try to open to portal over 169.254.xxx.xxx I can here the server starting to work, but I dont see anything displayed. Except of the browser's standard error Message.
What could be wrong with my Portal?

Thx for any help

PS: I apologize for my English, I'm swiss and already busy leraning French at school :-(

Have you solved this problem yet? I got exactly the same issu... To reach the portal from localhost works fine. I had no issues with the installation and setup of the portal. When I try to reach the portal from another machine in the network I only get the browser's errormessage that there seems to be no website at the specified address.

Other Websites I create on the Server (IIS 6.0) work fine and can be reached from "outside".

Any idea what this could be?

Make sure that you have added a portal alias for your IP address on your portal.

When logged in as host go to "Admin" -> "Site Settings" and at the bottom you should see a section called HTTP Alias and you can add a new one there...

Hello Mitchell, i'm having the same problem, but there's no line saying something about site alias.

The problem is that on another workstation the adressbar in explorer jumps to localhost/dotnetnuke  etc, which ofcourse, doesn't work, because the site is on another host.

Im working with version 4.3.7

Perhaps your solution is on another page?

regards Jeroen

Try this, again logged in as host.

"Host" -> "Portals"

Then click the edit link for your specific portal

At the very bottom of this page you should see a "Portal Alias" section, there is an "Add HTTP Alias" button at the bottom.  Click that and you can add the alias for external IP access.
