I was having a problem at first becuase I thought the version number for the .dnn file should match the version of DNN I was running 4.4.1 Wrong. making it 3.0 got me for two weeks.

Now that I got past that error I have my module installed and it shows up in the dropdown list. I can even attempt to add it to a page. When the page loads I get this in place of the module. If you have a clue what it could mean? I went to the path on the server and the files are in the path listed in the error. I am not wanting to spend another two weeks for something stupid again.

This module is very simple. One html table with a header and detail row with just a simple lable in it. In the code behind I have the page_load set the lable to "Hello Mike" thats it... do db stuff yet wanted to start off easy :)

For what its worth, I don't have a vertual director, this is the Root web instance.

You need to register the file in Module definitions. Please read the Module Developer's guide from the documentation section of this site.

I think you may have a typo in this file name:

'/DesktopModules/BirthdaysModule/Birthdays.ascx'

see the first half of this tutorial on creating yor module package:
