I asked my ISP if "localhost" was the name of the server and they confirmed it was.  My connection string, therefore, looks like this:

    <add
      name="SiteSqlServer"
      connectionString="Server=localhost;Database=acedb_01_prod;uid=AceU$er;pwd=Som$iri1;"
      providerName="System.Data.SqlClient" />

I am getting nothing but variations on "could not connect to database".  I also asked them to assign at least Read, Write, and Modify permissions on the virtual root of the site.  Before signing up with this ISP I asked them if they would do this and they said yes.  But, when I asked them to do it after signing up they balked until the support person said she twisted some arms and they did it.  Could they have not done it and this is causing my problems?  Any way I can see for myself what permissions are on the folder?

That does not sound right.  By default all references to localhost are directed to you local machine, not to an external site. You can verify this by doing a ping of locahost host and seeing what IP is returned.  If 127.0.0.1 is returned thatn that points to your local box. Who is your provider?

My provider is http://na.domains.coop - National Cooperative Business Association.  This is from their documentation:

"What hostname do I use to connect to my MS SQL database?

To connect to MS SQL from your scripts, you can use localhost as the hostname.

In order to connect from a remote host, you need to use the IP Address of your hosting package to establish the connection. You can find this on the Order Details page in your Control Panel."

This seems strange to I inquired with support and they responded:

"Dear Mike,

Finally got the word!

The server name is localhost and the IP address (in case you need it) is xx.xx.xxx.xxx."

I still think this is strange, but DNN is not installing with "localhost". Do I need to be using the IP? If so, I would think I need a port number, too.
