I've had a mild success just turning on syndication for the module (in the module settings), and then just call the core rss feed from the forums module, instead of the module's own rss feed.

Hi Erik, yep that's the one.

I didn't attempt your suggestion until the new forum build came out as the previous one was all buggy on 4.0.1 anyway. As it stands with the new build, I only seem to get the forum as a channel i.e. the title, but no items i.e. no actual posts, in the feed. This might be because it's on 4.0.1

Rob,

Have a look at the other thread. You might just have a problem with LastIndexDate as well, thats one of the "under the hood" module settings, which you can change only directly in the db

cheers,

erik

I use the Orizonti's Newfeeds module for the BBC news on my site.  I think you could use it to do what you wanted.  I will only parse the RSS feed it's given and it will update on your schedule.  You can choose how many of the articles to keep from the feed recieved.  So in your case you could choose to just keep the last one.  Another good thing with this module is you can skin it to fit in with the page you are on.

Thank Paul,

I am already looking into that module, seems to have a lot of features. Right now i am using the core rss module, and a basic xsl file to do format the feed and to select just the top 10 items

cheers,

erik

Check out that other thread in developing the forums.  I made a quick mention about this.

hmm... I've had a read through it and I understand that I wasnt gettting any posts because it is probably only giving me posts from the day... where all my posts are still test posts I inserted some time ago.

What I havent understood is how to fix that... is there a particular value I need to set for LastIndexDate? Your post says you set it to a low date.. what's a low date?

Thanks for any further advice :)
