Hello:

I decided to start using the VS Templates.  So I created a website using the DotNetNuke template, and then 'Add New Item' for a Desktop Module.  Everything seemed fine.  However, when I rebuild the site, I never do see the dll for the module I built.

Where is this being placed?  There isn't any project file created for either the DNN site or the Module, so it's not like I can open up the proj files and see what is going on.  Could someone point me to where I would find the dlls?

I know the module is being built correctly w/no errors or warnings.  Is there a reason that isn't in the docs for these templates why a proj file is not created?  I also don't see any dll for the SQLDataProvider for the module either, though that compiles fine too.  So I have no idea how these templates are used to create real-world modules.

I must be missing something simple.  Any of you experts have an idea where the mycompany.modules.mymodule.dll and sqldataprovider.dll is located after a debug compile?  Thanks for your help.

The .dll's are at:

%SystemRoot%\Microsoft.NET\Framework\versionNumber\Temporary ASP.NET Files

If you are using visual web developer express - and creating a Dynamic Module then there are no compiled modules that you can play with generated.

There are temporary compiles created on they fly - but they are not really suitable for public disemination.

If you need to create a compilled DLL then you need a full copy of Visual Studio 2005 before you can even think about that possibility ... then once you have VS2005 - the Build process will create your modules in the Bin folder of your project or anywhere else you would like them compiled.

Michael, you are a true prize to this community.  I read the link.  Thanks (and I apologize for not specifying VS...though I thought I did).  But how does one create a zip package for a dnn module using the DNN templates then?  Does one have to install the module into DNN and then create a zip package from there?

That seems kind of you-know-what backwards.  Isn't there a way to do module development w/o scratching our head as to where dlls and stuff are?  Do you know of a better way than by using the DNN templates?  Because if one can't easily package up a module after it is built (no dll, no zip file), it seems like a developer needs a more friendly way to be able to access dlls we've built.

Also, I did check that Temporary folder...I found no dll named mycompany.modules.mymodule.dll or mycompany.modules.mysqldataprovider.dll.  The link explained where things are placed, but it still begs the question, 'how do I get the dlls I've made so I can package them up'
