Hi, I have seen similar issues to mine posted on the forum but with no resolution so I am posting it again; hopefully with a better explanation of what is going on. If you have a similar problem please chime in below so we can all work on the fix together.

I have a portal whose admin recently uploaded many files at once using FTP (660 files, nested deeply in 55 folders, using 95MB).

He tried to do a recursive file synchronization. It fails with a Critical Error message sometimes, other times with an exception indicating code in the file synchronization module. It looks like the code is having trouble accessing the folder.

I have tried:

- removing the files and adding them a bit at a time

- I have removed all folder info from the database and tried to resynchronize

- I have tried synchronizing with only a couple of files in the root

- I tried using the scheduler to do the synch but it gets same exception as above

- and so on...

Some further information:

- the files in the portal root are visible to the file manager

- If I add a new directory the directory and all sub-directories of the portal root are shown in the file manager but if I click on them to expand/browse they simply go away and I am left looking at the portal root again with no subdirectories

- he is an administrator but when he tries to add links to files in the content using the Browse Server dialog he is told he cannot access the file list. I was able to fix this by adding permissions to view this (in File Manager) for Registered users. He now sees only the files in the root directory... if he adds a directory he sees that only (similar to file manager but only sees new directory).

Is there ANY way I can baseline the permissions on the server and in the database and re-sychronize?

Thanks,

Scott

Scott,

What were the specific errors you received when trying to sync?  You can use the log viewer to obtain this information.
