I have just tried to install DNN4  on a local machine and i got this error :

  Description: An error occurred during the processing of a configuration file required to service this request. Please review the specific error details below and modify your configuration file appropriately.

Parser Error Message: Could not load file or assembly 'UrlRewritingNet.UrlRewriter' or one of its dependencies. The system cannot find the file specified. (C:\Inetpub\wwwroot\www.abcd.com.test\web.config line 99)

Source Error:

Server Error in '/xyz' Application.

Configuration Error

Line 97:
Line 98:     <httpModules>
Line 99:       <add name="UrlRewriteModule" type="UrlRewritingNet.Web.UrlRewriteModule, UrlRewritingNet.UrlRewriter" />
Line 100:    </httpModules>
Line 101:

Source File: C:\Inetpub\wwwroot\www.abcd.com.test\web.config    Line: 99

I have no idea where the reference to  www.abcd.com.test came from as i certainly didn't put it in theweb.config file.

The  computer has at a point in time been used to develop a site www.abcd.com.

Thanks

You're most likely missing the DLLs in the BIN folder. Check out the folder C:\Inetpub\wwwroot\www.abcd.com.test\bin\

Thanks;

I have escaped THAT problem now. I am brought through a trail of other errors and I have now finally arrived at a page that says rather sternly :

DotNetNuke Upgrade Error

The Assembly Version ( [ASSEMBLYVERSION] ) does not match the Database Version ( [DATABASEVERSION] )

ERROR: Could not connect to database.

The type initializer for 'DotNetNuke.Data.DataProvider' threw an exception.

Problem No 1 : This is a fresh install and not an upgrade.

Problem No2 :  My database is  sql 2005 and my connection strings are as follows :

<connectionStrings>

    <!-- Connection String for SQL Server 2000/2005
    <add
      name="SiteSqlServer"
      connectionString="Server=(local);Database=freebase;uid=nukeadmin;pwd=password;"
      providerName="System.Data.SqlClient" />
   -->
  </connectionStrings>
  <appSettings>

    <!-- Connection String for SQL Server 2000/2005 - kept for backwards compatability - legacy modules
    <add key="SiteSqlServer" value="Server=(local);Database=freebase;uid=nukeadmin;pwd=password;"/>
    -->

Am I going to lose my job because of this ?

Even though it is a fresh install, the "update" program is the one that installs it, that is why there is reference to upgrade.

Regarding your connection string, try connecting with the information EXACTLY as it is listed using SQL Management Studio Express.  It doesn't appear to be setup correctly.

Thanks for the advice Mitchel. I finally got DNN4 to install. found it was a problem of  file permission afterall. However another odd problem surfaces (sigh) :
I logged into  admin and made some changes basically in the site configuration (name, keywords etc), added a user, and logged  out. Now I try to login to Admin again and the login page does not open at all. I only get the home page. I guess I probably touched something I shouldn't have in admin ( though I have no idea what).
I tried to do the most logical thing in such a situation (as far as I think) : I attempted to drop the database so that I could reinstall. But the database will not be deleted . I get a message that it is in use (it is not). Any ideas on how I may correct this problem. I want my admin login back.
Thanks
